US tries to limit virus' spread with travel restrictions

Across the globe, countries have placed restrictions on travel, and airlines have altered flight schedules in an effort to limit the coronavirus’ spread. US-based airlines Delta, United and American, have all suspended flights to mainland China.

On Friday, US Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar announced a public health emergency surrounding the outbreak and outlined a series of travel restrictions. As of Sunday evening:

Foreign nationals who have traveled to China in the 14 days before their arrival in the US will be denied entry
US citizens who have been to China’s Hubei province in the 14 days before their arrival in the United States will be subject to a mandatory quarantine
US citizens who have traveled to the rest of mainland China in the 14 days before their arrival will undergo health screenings and face up to 14 days of self-quarantine
All flights from China to the US will be funneled through one of 11 airports in the United States

While this all may sound like it could help, the World Health Organization advises against any restrictions of international traffic. Rather, they say to focus on screening of travelers coming from affected
areas.
