Update. Coved-19,  Coronavirus---2020-02-16:
Based on the Last official update: 16th. February 2020, 8:02 p.m. ET
There are currently 69,097 confirmed cases worldwide, including 1,668 fatalities.
Percentage new cases reported at new record low:
As you can clearly see from today's chart the percentage of new cases after rising 35% on Wed. has dropped back to what it has been averaging recently, around 4%. Yesterday there was a record drop in the percentage of new cases reported to only 3 %.
The virus may peak in February:
If this rate of decline in the percentage of new cases continues to decrease there is a very good chance that my prediction weeks ago that this virus may peak in February may come true.

"I still believe that the coronavirus may have peaked or will peak this month as I predicted a month ago."
Of course, there are a lot of variables and the question is are the numbers real? Even if they are not real what's important is the percentage of new cases every day. With the strict quarantine laws in effect throughout Asia and in fact now in most Western countries, We must hope for the best but prepare for the worse.

But that's a lot of If's and if the news changes I will report it the way it is not based on my desire to have this all over for the sake of my family, relatives friends, staff, clients, and guests but for the sake of mankind

Below is my first 30-day report on this virus with a lot of interesting information. You may want to take the time to update yourself.
"As always better safe than sorry."

30 Days Since First Major Report:
Today marks 30 days since we were alerted to the fact that there were 45 cases of confirmed coronavirus.

It could not have happened at a worse time when Millions of Chinese were traveling around China and out of the country for the Chinese new year.

Throughout history, rats have been one of the major contributors to pandemic diseases. Maybe it is just a coincidence that this year on the Chinese calendar is the Year of the Rat.
Now the amount of cases is up to 66,907 and rising each day.

When it first broke out most took it lightly. I became concerned as soon as I started charting the average percentage of new cases each day and a 95% increase in just one day.

If we would've continued at that rate we would've had a disease of apocalyptic proportions.
Fortunately, that trend did not continue. The latest chart shows only a 4% growth from the day before in new cases reported.

It is still not time to predict that this is over as we already know it can spread like wildfire if the authorities don't take it seriously.

It appears that it is not only China that has realized that this a very dangerous disease that can cause disaster if not controlled. The United States is setting up major quarantine stations at most major coastal ports around the United States in the last several days. US military approves 11 coronavirus quarantine camps next to major US air

Most of China is in lockdown as is evident by the news today that Private schools in Hong Kong believe they will have to shut their doors for the rest of the term. Coronavirus: Hong Kong international schools say they may not survive health crisis

In the meantime, we sit in Bali watching the news and wondering if we are going to find substantial cases in the near future.

The reality is we may have dodged the bullet.

Talking to fellow hotel managers last week some of them have been hit very hard. One large Hotel only has 16% occupancy. Another very large hotel in Nusa Dua who caters heavily to the Chinese is down 50%.

We are blessed. When we compiled our statistics for the month of January we found that we were running only down 4%.

So far this month surprising we have almost identical occupancies to last year at the same time.

I can only wonder why we are so fortunate.

Perhaps parents are thinking that it's better to stay in a private villa with your own private pool and stay away from the crowds and the buffet lines.

When you can do it at the same price as a four-star hotel room starting at $99 per night it makes sense.

"Is the coronavirus spreading or is it slowing down?"
The Good News:
On Thursday I stated "Up until yesterday's rather dramatic news we were seeing the coronavirus slow down substantially.

In fact, during the week there were several news reports, stating that the coronavirus had peaked.
The world World Health Organization W.H.O.was quick to make a statement that coronavirus cases may not have peaked so there's lots of conflicting news, as there always is during a virus breakout.
I still believe that the coronavirus may have peaked or will peak this month as I predicted a month ago.

Stay tuned to my future daily blogs to obtain facts reported to you by someone who has a vested interest in knowing what's going on.
First, because  I have a family with a loving wife and two young boys.

Secondly, I have a hotel business  PT Bali Luxury Villas who's occupancy fortunately to this point is only down 3% from last year.

It's my job to make sure that my staff, my owners and my guests are on top of the news and what is going on.

This week there was a reported case of a Chinese tourist that came here and left last month. He arrived in China and after eight days he showed signs of the coronavirus.
That does not mean he caught it here, although there is a slight chance that maybe a reality.

JAKARTA (THE JAKARTA POST/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Authorities in Anhui province, China, have reported that a Chinese national who visited Bali late last month has tested positive for the coronavirus disease Covid-19, as Indonesian authorities scramble to verify the information on Wednesday (Feb 12).

He stayed on the island for about a week before flying on Garuda Indonesia flight GA858 from Bali to Shanghai on Jan 28.

He was found to have been infected with the coronavirus on Feb 5 by Huainan CDC according to the Weibo post.

Editor's Comment: So if I'm reading this right the press is speculating that he caught the virus in Bali even though he was not diagnosed with the virus when he arrived in China. I assume when he arrived in China he was inspected by the now already experienced airport inspection teams.

Then eight days later he was found to have the virus after spending eight Days Back in China.

Excuse me but I think the press is speculating on this person receiving the virus in Bali and not exercising journalistic integrity.

I agree  with," the Health Ministry's disease control and environmental health director-general, Mr Anung Sugihantono, said his office had not yet received the information and was still "confirming it" but he was quick to say that it was "a rumour""

Coronavirus may not like high heat:

Remembering back to the SARS virus 18 years ago one thing I remember is that SARS did not do very well in extreme heat. Therefore I believe there was little or no cases of SARS in Bali at the time.

Donald Trump was alluding to this fact the other day after talking to the president of China.

He said that he was told by the president of China that this virus does not survive in high heat and of course Bali is in the midst of their summer with temperatures 33 to 35°C.

“Coronaviruses have seasonality," says Amesh Adalja, an infectious disease specialist with the Johns Hopkins University Center for Health Security. “We do know that certain environmental conditions favor the transmission of viruses and that cold weather, the humidity, all of that, affect trajectory. There's a good reason to believe [this virus] will have that seasonality."

Summary: So the bottom line is don't let this week's substantial rise in cases and deaths scare you.

"Don't let this week's substantial rise in cases and deaths scare you"

The Chinese may be just showing the real numbers and in fact, they could even go higher in the coming weeks as the Chinese discover more and more cases and deaths in the high-rises that they had quarantined before.
Indonesia & Bali are still free from the deadly virus according to the Indonesian Authorities.

Of course, there are a lot of variables involved in this deadly disease.
Many things can change overnight as they did on Wed.
At this point, there's reason to have hope.
"At this point, there's reason to have hope."
