The Academy Award nominations are out.
To nobody's surprise, Joker is up for the most awards including Best Movie, Best Actor & Best Actress.
This was expected after Joaquin Phoenix's amazing acting.
Unfortunately, I personally think the movie stinks.
It is a sick movie at a time when there is a sick society.
What I feared would happen has happened. Many sick people around the world in places such as Hong Kong have taken on the Joker's attitude while protesting. A movie that portrays a sick person such as a joker as a hero to many is not something I want my children to see.
Usually, I would make up a list of the movies I want to see and have my driver run out and purchase CDs so that I can view these movies which I've missed before the Academy Awards. Then I will have an understanding of what they're talking about during the awards.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure my CD Player works anymore.
And even if it does I probably forgot how to how to use it.
With the advent of Netflix, virtually nobody watches CDs anymore.
In fact, I just decided I may not even watch the Academy Awards if every time they're offering an award they show excerpts of the Joker.
I would rather watch The Australian Open tennis tournament which at least features men and women who are working hard to be sports heroes in their own right.
It's also a place where the fans will soon discover who is honest or evil.
As I always say you can tell the integrity of anybody after five minutes of playing them on a tennis court.

lumTodd Phillips’ “Joker,” a comic-book origin story about Batman’s biggest foe, scored a leading 11 Oscar nominations on Monday, including best picture, best director for Phillips and best actor for Joaquin Phoenix.
Martin Scorsese’s mob epic “The Irishman,” Quentin Tarantino’s ode to Los Angeles “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and Sam Mendes’ war drama “1917” followed close behind with 10 nods a piece. Those films, along with “Ford v Ferrari,” “Jojo Rabbit,” “Little Women,” “Marriage Story” and “Parasite” will compete for best picture.
Female filmmakers were entirely shut out of the best director race. Along with Phillips, the nominees include Scorsese for “The Irishman,” Mendes for “1917,” Tarantino for “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and Bong Joon Ho for “Parasite.”
The Academy Awards will air live Feb. 9 on ABC.
