Those of you who have been reading a few of the thousands of my Travel blogs over the past 10 years are well aware that I and my family are very experienced travelers.
In the past 40 years, I have traveled to most countries in every continent of the world except Africa, Antarctica and South America.
So when I say that I agree with the readers of Condé Nast Traveler that "Indonesia is the best country to visit" it based on my experience and not emotion.
In factlast year my family and I drove all the way from Bali almost 2000 km round trip to the Western tip of the largest island, Java therefore experiencing A large percentage of the most visited areas of Indonesia.
We also just returned from a skiing vacation which included three weeks in Switzerland and France.
As far as I'm concerned Indonesia has it all, beauty, exotic locations, great year-round weather, and friendly locals.
On top of that, it is one of the least expensive places to travel in the world.
This is very important to the modern traveler, especially if you have a family of four, as I do.
For example, it only cost us $600 per person to travel roundtrip from here to Europe and back with my family, including two older boys.
I have been checking prices across Canada right now just to go across Canada's is the same price.
When I walked into a grocery store in Zürich in Lausanne on my first day I was shocked when he walked away with our normal two basketfuls of food for one week for my family and the bill was almost $800.
The same groceries in Bali, Indonesia cost $200 to $300.
Perhaps one of the largest shocks I had was when we went to a movie theatre to see the latest Star Wars Saga. We were billed $60.
In Bali and most of Indonesia that same movie for four people would only cost $15-$20.
And as I always tell people who complain about the few minor inconveniences Bali has "go have a $5.00 massage".
Instead of paying $50 - $150 per hr. in most Western countries you could have first-class masseuse come to your Bali home, villa or hotel room for as little as five dollars an hour.
Couple with that the fact that a family of four can stay in a three-bedroom, three-bathroom luxury 350m2 villa in a major resort area of Bali for as little as $120 per night or $30 per person.
In Zürich I paid $400 for two small 30 m² rooms in a four-star hotel.
Those same rooms probably would cost you $100 or 75% less in Bali and even less in other tourist areas of Indonesia.

The Condé Nast 2019 Readers’ Choice Awards has voted Indonesia as the best country in the world to visit – up from 15th place last year!
