End of First Decade of 21st. CenturyIt was the end of another decade.
No better way to celebrate another successful 10 years in Bali then to take my family on a fantasy ski trip halfway around the world from Bali to the Swiss Alps.
On December 18th. we flew 10 hours from Bali to the Middle Eastern country of Qatar and stayed overnight in their main city of Doha which does not require a visa for overnight or short stays.

We continued on the next day on a six-hour flight to Zürich, Switzerland where he spent two days at an AIRBNB rental apartment and toured around the city in the freezing weather.


Our trip from Zürich to Lausanne, our final destination, was on a 2 1/2 hour train drive, which by luck we enjoyed our own private coach.




In Lausanne, we exchanged our second home in Bali, a beachfront estate, for a beautiful three-bedroom, recently built, home with all the modern conveniences on the hill above the gorgeous city of Lausanne.
The next day we walked along the famous Lake Geneva and enjoyed the local birdlife.


The following day we set out for our first adventure to the fabulous Swiss Alps at Port de Soleil which means door to the sun.
We drove from Lausanne to Chantel and took a gondola ride up to mid-station.
Unfortunately, the conditions were not good with wet, cold snow that quickly soaked through two complete sets of ski clothing. After six runs we retired for the day.
We enjoyed a lovely Christmas eve and Christmas day in Lausanne where dad cooked his first turkey by himself in his long lifetimeIt's.
Fortunately, it was a success.
Then a few days later it was off to one of the largest ski resorts in Europe, Verbier, which provided a gorgeous sunny day and plenty of skiing.
Then it was time to celebrate New Year's Eve in Lausanne.
Unfortunately, there's not much going on there.
The highlight of Lausanne's New Year's Eve celebrations is the lighting of a cathedral which we planned on trying to make around 11 PM.
Early in the day we scouted out restaurants within a close walking distance from the cathedral and finally decided on an Asian restaurant.
Oddly enough we had noticed it on our ride from the train station to our home exchange on our first day in Lausanne.
We had asked our Uber driver if the restaurant had good food and he said: "yes, excellent".
So that night in very heavy fog conditions we hailed a Uber to take us there
He was not wrong and we gorged on Asian delights with desserts which would certainly put on more kilos for the new year.
After a feast of Curry, Shrimps, Roast Duck we all agreed we would head back to our home exchange and celebrate New Years by the fire instead of waiting outside a Cathedral in sub-zero temperatures.

We hailed another Uber.
The gods blessed us with a $100,000 Dollar Plus Luxury Tesla.
When this gorgeous black piece of high technoloy showed up and the door opened straight up, the boys and Azizah sat in the back and I sat in the luxurious passenger seat with the huge LED screen, I thought,It's I want one.

New Year's Day was enjoyed at home with another unique meal when dad prepared a combination of cheese, beef, chicken and chocolate fondues. A first for mom and the boys.
The boys really enjoyed the chocolate fondue.
Our young 11-year-old Darius was in chocolate heaven.
The rest of the Vacation was spent under better conditions with one last ski outing and moving to another home exchange before heading back to Bali.
