No better way to celebrate another successful 10 years in Bali then to take my family on a fantasy ski trip halfway around the world from Bali to the Swiss Alps.
On December 18th. we flew 10 hours from Bali to the Middle Eastern country of Qatar and stayed overnight in their main city of Doha which does not require a visa for overnight or short stays.
We continued on the next day on a six-hour flight to Zürich, Switzerland where he spent two days at an AIRBNB rental apartment and toured around the city in the freezing weather.
Then we set out for our main destination in Lausanne on famous lake Geneve.
Our trip from Zürich to Lausanne, was on a 2 1/2 hour train drive, which by luck we enjoyed our own private coach.
In Lausanne, we exchanged our second home in Bali, a beachfront estate, for a beautiful three-bedroom, recently built, home with all the modern conveniences on the hill above the gorgeous city of Lausanne.
The next day we walked along the famous Lake Geneva and enjoyed the local birdlife.
The following day we set out for our first adventure to the fabulous Swiss Alps at Port de Soleil, which means door to the sun.
We drove from Lausanne to Chantel and took a gondola ride up to mid-station.
Unfortunately, the conditions were not good with wet, cold snow that quickly soaked through two complete sets of ski clothing.
After six runs we retired for the day.
A lovely Christmas eve and Christmas day was enjoyed in Lausanne.
Dad cooked his first turkey by himself in his long lifetime.
Fortunately, it was a success.
Afew days later it was off to one of the largest ski resorts in Europe, Verbier, which provided a gorgeous sunny day and plenty of skiing.

New Year's Eve was celebrated in Lausanne.
Unfortunately, there's not much going on there.
The highlight of Lausanne's New Year's Eve celebrations is the lighting of a cathedral which we planned on trying to make around 11 PM.
Early in the day we scouted out restaurants within a close walking distance from the cathedral and finally decided on an Asian restaurant.
Oddly enough we had noticed it on our ride from the train station to our home exchange on our first day in Lausanne.
We had asked our Uber driver if the restaurant had good food and he said: "yes, excellent".
So that night in very heavy fog conditions we hailed a Uber to take us there
The Uber driver was not wrong about the restaurant and we gorged on Asian delights with desserts which would certainly put on more kilos for the new year.
After a feast of Curry, Shrimps, Roast Duck we all agreed we would head back to our home exchange and celebrate New Years by the fire instead of waiting outside a Cathedral in sub-zero temperatures.
We hailed another Uber around 10:30 PM on New Years Eve.
The gods blessed us with a $100,000 Dollar Plus Luxury Tesla.
When this gorgeous black piece of high technology showed up and the door opened straight up, the boys and Azizah sat in the back.
I sat in the luxurious passenger seat with the huge LED screen, I thought "I want one".
New Year's Day was enjoyed at home with another unique meal when dad prepared a combination of cheese, beef, chicken and chocolate fondues.

The boys really enjoyed the chocolate fondue.
Our young 11-year-old Darius, a self-proclaimed chocoholic, was in chocolate heaven.
The rest of the Vacation was spent under better conditions with a ski outing at Verbier and moving to another home exchange at the Eastern corner of Lake Geneve at Villeneuve at the foot of the Alps.
Unfortunately, our older son Xander tried to do too many YouTube moves and put 1 foot in the icy cold Lake Geneva

The view from our home exchange was magical, Lake Geneva to the east and the foothills of the Alps to the south.

But it provided some excellent views
Having done no cultural expiration of this point I decide on her last day that we must visit the most visited castle in Switzerland the famous Castle De Chillion.
At first the boys were very negative but soon realize that it was an experience that they can enjoy and remember.
The castle was a magnificent piece of architecture. And stood the test of time.
It's hard to believe that people used to live in such cold dark environments and that was considered luxury.
The Castle of Chillon is the 
result of several centuries of constant building, adaptations, renovations and restorations.
Chillon Castle (French: Château de Chillon) is an island castle located on Lake Geneva (Lac Léman), south of Veytaux in the canton of Vaud. It is situated at the eastern end of the lake, on the narrow shore between Montreux and Villeneuve, which gives access to the Alpine valley of the Rhône. Then it was time to go home to our home exchange in Villeneuve.
On our final day, we packed up early and managed to do an unbelievable job of packing three large suitcases four small suitcases and four persons into a five-passenger vehicle.
We drove starting at 6 AM and Checked in to the Zürich Airport Movenppick.
They provided a hotel manager courtesy of an upgrade to beautiful two beautiful ones with excellent front desk service.
For our last evening in Europe. I promised the family a first-class steak dinner, unfortunately, none of the restaurants opened till 6 PM.
We roamed around from 4 PM and found some fun things to do with a playground that had a zip cord
We made it back to the hotel and the next morning arrived at the airport at 4:45 AM to secure emergency seating for our 8:30 flight.
Then we retraced our route back to Doha for a seven-hour stay at a small hotel.
Unfortunately, we did not wander out because the day before missiles were sent from two Iran to Iraq and the world was extremely tense.
Also that evening it was announced that a Ukraine jet leaving from an Iran airport was shot down and everybody was extremely tense.
I certainly did not want to show my My or my son's white faces in an area that is known have extreme fundamentalists.
At 11 AM at night we set off for the airport having already secured our boarding passes which included emergency seating for Azizah and I.
Thank God we had emergency seating because the plane was 100% sitting in the bulkhead no one in front of you except another stewardess and take off and landing makes all the difference in the world.
Ten hours later on a very pleasant, professionally run, Qatar air flight we arrived home to Bali and our trusty driver Gusti picked us up.
On the way home, we stopped in for Azizah's favorite red-hot food that would poison a normal individual.
Finally at home by about 8 PM I jumped in the Jacuzzi on the beach with a full moon and thanked the gods for another safe Vacation with my family.

On our second last day there we decided to try to drive up to the top of the hill where we saw the magnificent huge building which looked like a palace.
After going up several dead ends we finally found a road that went all the way to the top which provided some magnificent views of Lake Geneva.
The older traditional Swiss homes and churches provided for some Kodak moments.
Too bad because it was only about 15 to 20 minutes from our home.
Finally of the top we took some very scenic shots.
What we were not expecting as we drove up the hill was to see on the other side a ski resort that actually I had planned on visiting but unfortunately, they didn't have enough snow.
A building that we had pledged to visit during our stays is a massive building on top of hill close to our home exchange.
It turned out to be a former palace converted to one of the most prestigious hotel management schools in the world.
